"Toby Tupper is a male mutt with some border collie in the mix, about a year and a half old and 50#. He was found in the alleys trying in vain to stay warm and find food and unfrozen water in the bitter cold of January. He likely had never been inside, but is loving his warm bed in his foster home and is learning amazingly quickly how to behave inside. He is crate trained (he loves his crate and runs in excitedly to get his meals and treats when his foster parents go out, and also just naps in there during the day with the door open) and housebroken. He loves to play with his foster parents' two pit mixes - 80# male, 65# female - does very well with both, but can be reactive to other dogs he doesn't know, so would need a proper introduction to any other dogs; he wants to be top dog in the house! He's great with children; he's been around and very patient with ages 2-10. He passed his cat test at SR but has not had any other cat encounters since. He has been neutered and brought up to date on all his immunizations.
An absolute sweetheart, Toby started out pretty timid, but not anymore! He loves to run around and to chew on his Kong toy. He cuddles when you invite him to, but is not usually pushy or clingy when admonished. He also loves to nap in the sun and will follow it through the day as it moves across the floor! Toby likely experienced some abuse as he initially cringed away from hands moving to pet him, but in spite of that, this sweet guy remains trusting and hasn't had a single bad reaction from fear or stress otherwise. He has a fairly high energy level when he's in the mood to play and needs room to run around; he jumped over a 5' portion of fence to check out the dog walking by on the other side, so he'd do best with a 6' fenced yard or a someone to walk/run/play with him on a leash regularly!
Toby is a smart dog and fast learner, and with a little training and patience could really be an amazing companion. This guy's personality is really starting to shine, now that he's getting comfortable with the notion that his cold, hungry, lonely nights are over! In foster limbo since January, it's time for him to settle into his forever home.
