Meet Alice, a super sweet Shepherd mix. We had been feeding Alice on the streets for several weeks. We could tell she had recently given birth but never saw her with any puppies. We assumed they hadn't survived. The day came when we had it all planned out to use one of our humane traps to rescue Alice. When we arrived, there was Alice in her normal spot. She saw us and got up to leave when we saw these three little tails wagging behind her. Her puppies had survived! We were able to scoop them up just before they ran under the dilapidated house they called home. Being the good momma that she is Alice kept a close eye on us and her babies. We set up the trap with lots of yummy food right next to our car. Hunger and curiosity got the better of her and she went right in. The entire family was taken to the vet to be examined. The puppies were in great shape. Unfortunately Alice was suffering from heartworms. She has been treated and is now as good as new.
When Alice was brought to the shelter she was so scared. She spent the first week with her back to us facing the corner. She looked so sad. Slowly but surely she started to come around. Now Alice is enjoying time in a foster home with two other dogs. She loves to play, chew on bones and run in the yard. Alice would do best in a home with another dog and a fenced in yard. She is super sweet, curious and would make some lucky person a very loyal companion. Alice does not need a crate during the day. She just lounges on her foster parent's couch and relishes being off the streets. She is housebroken and is learning to walk on a leash.
