FROL'S RESCUE I got a call from a woman who said there are 20 stray dogs living around her house and of course I though this can't be true but as usual it was. I arrived and saw many dogs all feral, all scared, all hungry. I knew this was a project that I would have to enlist the help of the nice folks who called. They built a large pen in their yard and I asked if we could use it as a half-way house so we could rescue and if we didn't have space they could stay in the pen. They were great and ready to assist. I love it when the callers get involved and help, especially with so many dogs. The first to be caught was this beautiful boy , Frol. When I saw him in the trap I knew I had to do a quick assessment which meant will he let me pet him without biting. With bite gloves on I reach in and he does. Shaking from fear but not attacking or biting he is allowing me to do my "thing". The next step was to put a slip lead on our frightened soldier and gain his trust enough to pick him up. He barely allows it but is cooperating as much as a feral dog can on rescue. Next was the dash to the car without dropping or losing him- I run, he defecates and pee's all over me but I keep up the sprint. Safe in the car we make the trip to the shelter- what happens next is my favorite moment...the moment they fall into their first deep sleep not worrying about their safety anymore, not worrying about food anymore and just enjoying the comforts of the shelter. I take off my glove and begin to pet Frol, he likes it. He will one day make a wonderful companion for he is trusting us humans more and more each day. Randy
