Let Me Be Your Pilot

Imagine living in urban decay, no food, sick, alone and ready to give up and die. Pilot showed all these signs and watching him try to overcome his fear just for a hotdog was heartbreaking.  Donna and I watched as he drank from a mud puddle and he looked up at us with a look that will stick with us for a long time, the look of “why me?”

To prevent any more stress for this poor guy we decided to use a humane trap to rescue him.  And it worked. At first Pilot was a bit hesitant but the smell of food, real food not garbage, overtook his fears and he slowly went in, triggering the trap and a start at a new life.

He has a long way to go, heartworm positive and severe mange are the most pressing culprits. The amazing thing to me was his behavior at the Hillside Vet Clinic…..after all their prodding and drawing blood he looked at me and gave me a deliberate kiss of gratitude. He knows his bad days are behind him.  He is already wonderful now we just need to heal his wounds.
