URBAN WANDERERS

JULY 16 ― AUGUST 29, 2010

ST. LOUIS ― In partnership with Stray Rescue of St. Louis, the Saint Louis University Museum of Art will host: Urban Wanderers. The exhibition opens with a 6 p.m. reception, Friday, July 16, and continues until August 29.

More than 40 artists have painted, photographed, illustrated and sculpted their interpretation of an abandoned or abused dog or cat that has been given a second chance thanks to the rescue efforts of the Stray Rescue staff.

Stray Rescue supporter, actress, Loretta Swit of the hit television series, M*A*S*H* will attend the opening reception on Friday, July 16. Several of her paintings also will be displayed in the exhibition.

In addition to the brushes, pencils, and clay used by participating artists, the rescued dogs and cats of Stray Rescue will use their paws, tails, and noses to create “personalized” works of art that will be displayed in the exhibition.

The local artists’ work and the animals’ creations, as well as select pieces by Swit will be available for purchase through a silent auction by visiting http://blacktie-stlouis.com/auctions. Bidding begins Friday, July 16. All proceeds from the silent auction will benefit Stray Rescue of St. Louis.

Urban Wanderers is free-of-charge and open to the public.

The exhibition is sponsored by Barret’s Buddies; Barb Strum; Nancy Shaw and John White; Anheuser-Busch, Inc.; American Equity Mortgage; and Bommarito Automotive Group.

ABOUT STRAY RESCUE OF ST. LOUIS

The sole purpose of Stray Rescue is to rescue stray animals in need of medical attention and place them in loving, adoptive homes. Virtually all of the rescued pets have been abused and neglected. Some have been dumped on highways, or remote country roads, while others have been found living in public parks, empty houses and dark alleys

As a no-kill organization, pets from Stray Rescue seem to understand that they have a second lease on life. These remarkable animals reward their new guardians with a love and loyalty unmatched anywhere.
