Because Stray Rescue is a no-kill animal welfare organization, we provide behavioral training, when necessary, to insure that all dogs can be adopted into a forever, loving home. Every now and then we get a dog who is wonderful in every way except for a few minor issues. This was the case with Ernest. Fence climbing, a mild case of separation anxiety and a stubborn streak that would make any purebred German proud, best describe Ernest. We must say he is also a real sweetheart, great with kids, cats, car rides, housebroken and much more. However, his stubborn streak and his refusal to obey his foster mom made Ernest a perfect candidate for some obedience training. Linda Goetz, of LaPorte Indiana, runs a program called Prison Tails, in which homeless dogs spend 6 weeks in a local prison where they go through intensive training, including agility school. Linda graciously agreed open her arms to let Ernest become a pupil in Prison Tails and so on July 6, Ernest traveled to La Porte, relayed in the cars of volunteers from both Prison Tails and Stray Rescue. We are happy to report that Ernest is doing Stray Rescue proud and is enjoying living with his new temporary guardian, Tom. As you can see from this picture, Tom and Ernest are having a good time with their agility training. We are so proud of Ernest and thankful for Tom's skills and patience with him. Way to go Ernest!! We can't wait for you to return to Stray Rescue. Keep an eye our web site if you are interested in adopting Ernest once he graduates from this program at the end of August. |
