to view the video. More than 200 people and many four-legged companions packed the Mad Art Gallery Dec. 9 for the Hope for the Holidays Gala Dec. 9. The event raised more than $36,000 for Stray Rescue. For the second straight year, actress and animal rights advocate Linda Blair served as honorary chair, along with Kathleen England of KSDK-TV. A special DVD featured Stray Rescue's efforts to assist with relief efforts following Hurricane Katrina, in addition to everyday efforts to rescue and find deserving doggies a place to call home. Guitarist Vince Varvel provided musical entertainment while guests dined on cuisine provided by 20 of St. Louis' leading restaurants and from the kitchens of our very own volunteers. More than 90 businesses, organizations and individuals donated silent auction items this year. The members of the gala committee extend special thanks to this year's sponsors: Carol House Furniture, Nestle Purina, Joe Hannon and Nancy, Lucy and Scooby Berg. Thanks also to Friar Larry Nichols for his blessing of the dogs, and to Ron and Tracy at Mad Art. The biggest thanks once again go to the best volunteers on earth, including our favorite Girl Scouts in Florrie Kohn's Troop 2306. Your efforts, talents and generosity made this the most profitable gala ever - and that makes it possible to provide a comfortable place for our shelter friends and resources to rescue many more dogs from life on the streets.
