This was ground zero, where we decided to build a make shift shelter. It was very sad because the Red Cross and FEMA had not been there.

As I was searching for animals, I saw this St. Francis statue still standing. Talk about irony, the entire house was gone, but the statue remained.

We built a make shift shelter on a driveway of house that was no longer there. We called it,"Camp Katrina." At nightfall we would trap animals. We also transported supplies and animals to other make shift shelters while stopping to give first aid to others.

We rescued 7 puppies who had somehow survived. The family and home, however, did not.

This was our "Camp Katrina."
