| THE RESCUE OF LOIS While trying to rescue Mambo, part of the Ray's Automotive pack in North St. Louis, I saw a sad looking dog going through the rubble of what once was a home, in search of food. This starved dog was just one of many that day that needed saving but the sight of her scrounging in such a sad looking area struck a chord. We pulled up and I got out of the SUV armed with a pack of hotdogs and a leash. I expected her to run off. Well, she ran but towards me. When her nose caught wind of the weenies she lunged forward, not to attack but to score the hotdogs. I realized her hunger was going to be her way of rescuing her. As she ate the hotdogs, I gently noosed her and began petting her. After she finished her meal she gave me a nudge of thanks and looked at me with those doe like eyes saying "so, what's next for me?" She knew. As we approached the car she immediately put her front paws inside of the interior but was to weak to jump in, so I helped her. She wanted away from this place and I didn't blame her. Darrell and I both realized this is a sweetheart. A trusting, loving, kind sweet dog-soul who for some reason got kicked to the curb like so many others....left to fend for herself. Well not anymore! After a few weeks at the vet she is healthy, happy and ready to experience a home, one preferably with hotdogs! Randy |
