It was another scorching hot day on a terrible street, and a skeleton of a dog was roaming from backyard to backyard in a desperate search for food. Founder Randy Grim approached the dog who was scared and growling, but when he saw Randy had food his attitude changed quickly.
Randy named the dog Lamont, and he knew immediately the dog was special. Lamont was rescued during a very stressful time, when the St. Louis Board of Aldermen voted to turn their back on Stray Rescue - even after we had done so much for the companion animals and citizens of the city. The bond between Randy and Lamont grew quickly, as they would lay on the couch in our shelter's meet and greet room waiting for another news station to show up to do an interview about the Aldermen's vote. Lamont was just the soothing presence Randy needed, and it was obvious Lamont knew he had been given his second chance as he acted more like a loving puppy than an emaciated, abused dog.

A wonderful supporter and adopter, Jessica, came into the meet and greet room while Randy and Lamont were cuddled on the couch. She had came to inform Randy that Opie, another very special rescue dog and one that reminded him of Lamont, had died. Reminiscing about Opie, Randy knew he wasn't going to let Jessica leave without giving Lamont his new loving home... and Jessica knew it too.
Lamont's new, full name is now Mr. Lucas Lamont Griesbach, he is Jessica's best friend, and now he will always know what comfort and love feels like... and a full belly.
