Close to the pack we call, the broken leg pack, is another group of dogs that we are just learning about. By what I can only describe as junkyard, was a dog scrounging for food. It was obvious she may have puppies somewhere.
At first, she started to run from us so I immediately lobbed food towards her to catch her attention. It worked, for she was starving. As she ate, in a starved manner, the distraction of the food allowed me to slip a lead over her head. Once she realized that I had her, she got scared and pulled back. Soon she allowed me to pet her. I could tell she loved being pet and probably has been waiting 2 years for an act of kindness.
She led me to her pups in a broken down trashy trailer. Amazingly, she was able to keep 6 of her pups alive. Darrell crawled in and got the pups and soon we were at the shelter with everyone safe and warm. Lolly came up to me when it was over and gave me a deliberate kiss. I know she was saying "thanks".
