Stowe gets our vote for Mother of the Year. She was rescued in the city near the Harris-Stowe campus. She was just about ready to pop with puppies and did so, in fact, the very next day. Of course they were adorable puppies! She was a great momma and took very good care of them until they were old enough to go to foster homes. Just when she thought she was done being a momma, we rescued another dog who had just given birth. The newly rescued momma, Hope, was too weak to care for her babies so Stowe stepped up to the plate and took on Hope's babies without batting an eyelash. She nursed and cared for them as though they were her own. We were so proud of her. Hope's puppies have all gone to their Forever Homes and Stowe is now ready to get on with her life. She is a very friendly girl but a bit on the shy side. She will need a home with lots of love and patience. She hasn't mastered walking on a leash yet so a fenced in yard is a must. She gets along well with other dogs but we've never seen her around cats so we're not sure how she'll be. Stowe is vaccinated, micro chipped and spayed, so no more babies for her. We're certain she's thrilled about that. We're also certain she wouldn't hesitate to help another litter of puppies in need if she could. She's just that kind of girl. |
