Z-Momma's rescue was a long time coming. We saw her on the streets for years. She was too scared to approach us and much too savvy to go into our humane trap. In all that time we saw her go from bald and scabby to having a beautiful coat of hair to being bald and scabby again. We also saw her have litter after litter. We were lucky enough to rescue her puppies before they picked up on her fear of people. All were given names starting with "Z", hence the name Z-Momma. During the recent frigid temperatures we saw Z-Momma bald again. She was also looking totally beaten down. We knew it was now or never. She seemed to know it, too. She let us pick her up with just our arms. Once in the car she just curled up on a blanket and slept the whole way to the vets office. After a few days of vet care she was feeling much better. She still didn't have much hair but looked beautiful to us. Her gentle personality is slowly bur surely starting to emerge. She now wags her tail when she sees us and loves romping around the shelter yard with her friends Alice and Whitley. She has made tremendous strides since the first day we spotted her so long ago. She's still a bit shy and hasn't caught on yet to leash walking. We know in time she'll be trotting alongside the volunteers for her daily walks. Z-Momma has never had an accident in her apartment at the shelter and seems happiest when she is with other dogs. She would do best in a home with a fenced in yard and a well socialized dog to teach her the ropes. And with older children. She might be frightened by the sudden movements of toddlers.
