Emerald, you can do this!
August 29, 2023 | 2:06pmJUST IN - We had another cat with a broken jaw come in who desperately needed life-saving surgery.
This is Emerald.

Both his top and bottom jaws are completely broken in half. Due to the condition of his body, we can confirm he was not hit by a car. We believe he most likely jumped or fell from high up, and his legs absorbed most of the impact because cats are limber, but his head also hit the ground and split his jaw in half.
Our amazing Dr. Schulz had to stitch up the roof of his mouth and do the labial button procedure to “wire” his top and bottom jaw together, just like we did for a kitty named Perma in June (who is now happy, healthy, and adopted!). He has an esophageal feeding tube so he can eat without using his mouth while he heals.
His right eye looks a little funny because he also has nerve damage in his face, causing him to not be able to produce tears or blink on that side. We are lubing his eye for him at least him twice a day.

This beautiful and sweet kitty should be able to make a full recovery, just like Perma did. But he has a long road to recovery, probably 4-6 weeks at least. A special thank you to the woman who found him and got him help, Jennifer!
Please consider sending a donation to help Emerald, we will keep the updates coming!
