A story the world needs: Meet Hook & Ladder!
July 27, 2020 | 4:57pmA kitten rescue like no other:
Meet Hook and Ladder!
This morning, we were contacted by a very worried Good Samaritan because he heard a kitten crying for help from underneath a highway overpass!
This tiny sweetheart was crying so loud that we could hear him over all of the traffic passing above. We knew we weren't going to leave without taking him back with us. Our ladder was too short, even when we put it on top of our jeep. There's no way we would ever reach.
Thankfully, the amazing firefighters of the St. Louis Fire Department were happy to come help us. They were just as dedicated to saving this kitten's little life as we were!
Two teams of firefighters, two trucks, and a blanket to catch the kitten just in case he fell. We cannot thank the St. Louis Fire Department enough for the role they played today!
Everyone cheered the second that we saw him in the arms of the firefighters! This moment was nothing short of magic.
But once we got a good look at him we knew he needed our help. He had goopy eyes, a blood-stained mouth, was very weak, and shaking all over. We rushed him back to our trauma center to be assessed for injuries or illness.
Even though he's in rough shape, Hook and Ladder gladly snuggled himself into Donna's neck. He immediately knew he was safe and loved by everyone at Stray Rescue!
You know as well as we do that the first 24 hours that Hook and Ladder is with us at Stray Rescue are the most critical. The clinic will continue to provide the best possible care for him, but we couldn't do it without the support of our community!
