He was being hunted.

This one-year-old puppy was shot with a bow and arrow, and the arrow is now brutally lodged in his throat. He was transported here to the safe haven of Stray Rescue where we immediately administered pain medication. He’s so kind, so sweet, so gentle. It enrages us to even think about how someone could be so heartless to do something like this to such a sweet soul. How could someone do this?

We got him settled and as comfortable as possible. In the background of the video, you can hear anger in our staff members’ voices. Once we performed x-rays, we could clearly see that the arrow is going right through him. It is near his spine and esophagus. As if that wasn’t horrific enough, he also has a bullet lodged in his abdomen.

Someone was hunting this puppy.

They wanted him dead.

We prepared for surgery, but discovered the arrow is piercing his trachea. This will not be easy to remove, and he needs a skilled specialist immediately. We made the call and loaded him in our medical transport Jeep. We strapped him to the gurney and tucked him in with blankets and a pillow to show him that not every human being is a monster. We sent him with love and so many kisses. Saying goodbye to him was really hard, but it’s the only chance he has, and he deserves our EVERY effort.

Please send prayers and positivity his way. Please send him all your fierce love which we know he feels from near and far. We named him Lucky Charm, and we KNOW he can make it through this! With you by his side, there is no better chance in the world. We will keep everyone posted as he fights to live through this tricky surgery.

We have an update on Lucky Charm!

This complex surgery lasted 3-4 hours, but….he made it! We made this drawing for you so you can sort of see what happened.

The arrow he was cruelly shot with pierced his trachea and his esophagus. It came right up to his spine, but didn’t do any damage (even though it came very close). The surgeons carefully removed the arrow and stitched up both holes in his trachea and esophagus.

Here’s the really cool part – they said he is doing great and was a champ eating his breakfast! Although he’s not out of the woods yet and today is critical, they think we’ll be able to bring him home in the next day or two.

Update 3/19:

Here he is!

We just picked up Lucky Charm from the specialist and we’re bringing baby boy home to Stray Rescue!! His surgery was a success!

He’s home! Of course we welcomed Lucky Charm home with a little love parade!! He is one of the strongest warrior dogs we’ve ever met. His entire life has changed in the last 48 hours. Now, it’s time to rest, time to heal. THANK YOU to everyone who helped us save his life! Because of our supporters, we were able to send him to some of the best surgeons in the midwest, giving him the best chance possible. He deserves nothing less.
