THIS is why you need to keep your animals inside during heat advisories. This is hard to watch but we are doing everything we can! This little one was running downtown, scared to death and suffering from severe heat stress. We kept our distance, we knew she’d lay down soon. She found a puddle by a fence. Donna snuck up and expertly lasso’d a slip lead around her neck and we had to lift her out and over the fence and passed her to staff who came to help. We rushed her to our clinic where they are giving her oxygen and cooling her down with ice. Updates to come. Please say a prayer, her temperature is 108 degrees! We named her Ocho!
It took 40 minutes, but we do have Ocho cooled down and calmed down, she’s breathing normally. We gave her oxygen, fluids, and applied ice to her chest, abdomen, and areas that are less furry. We will keep a close eye on her today to make sure she doesn’t have any side effects, and we’ll make her feel as safe and secure as possible.
When it is this hot outside, PLEASE keep your pets inside! They absolutely must have shade, and cool water. We were so worried Ocho was going to have a heart attack.
