The ONE LOVE Club
Not every dog is comfortable living with other animals but that doesn't mean they're not great in every other way! Featured below are the incredible dogs that are in our One Love Club, a program designed to connect single dogs with adopters that have a home without other animals. Their names and information are listed under each photo. If you're looking to add a family member to your household, please consider adopting one of these angels.
Adopting one of these dogs provides you with the following benefits for the dog's lifetime:
- - Free food
- - Free monthly/flea/tick/heartworm preventatives
- - Free annual visits to the shelter clinic
- - The comfort and convenience of utilizing the shelter clinic at cost (outside of annual visits)
Please meet the members of our One Love Club!
This gorgeous girl is Hot Cocoa and she is ready to find her forever family! She is incredibly loyal, smart, and sweet to her human friends, but she's not a big fan of other dogs or cats. She also has a great temperament that charms everyone she meets! Her ideal home would just have older humans that can spoil her every chance they get, but also be willing to work on building her confidence and trust. She really enjoys hiking on the Katy Trail and going on adventures to different local parks with her favorite volunteers. Hot Cocoa is a beautiful girl that requires a confident, experienced handler who can dedicate time to her continued training and socialization. She would love to have you as her pack leader, so please inquire about Hot Cocoa!
Good things come in small packages, and this little dog is a great example of that. Smart, fun, very willing to learn, and best of all a soul mate awaiting her human counterpart. She'll make a wonderful companion for any hiking or camping adventure, or just a walk in the park. She's high energy, but not hyper, and melts into a snuggly, affectionate relax-on-the-couch dog once she trusts you.
Rainbow meets people easily and loves other dogs, but living with another dog would require structure and boundaries to allow her to adjust in time. She's a great companion and adores human affection. A very attentive dog, she will be dedicated to her forever family. This lovely dog is ready for home and a new best friend.
Dogs......OK after structured/monitored intros
Apartment......OK with proper exercise
Crate and muzzle trained
Must have multiple meet-ups with potential adopters before taking her home!
A very generous supporter, who elected to remain anonymous, has paid for Rainbow's adoption fee in honor of her beloved dog who crossed the rainbow bridge.
Everyone who meets Oxford falls in love with him. He's not one to jump in your lap the first time you meet him, he just has a sweet, quiet disposition that draws people to him. He has enough energy for long walks and hikes but he is not a hyper dog.
Oxford is "move-in ready"; he possesses great manners but could use some additional training for resource guarding. He also does well with any dog he meets. If they get jumpy or snarky Oxford just ignores them. His gentle demeanor would indicate that he could do well with cats, however, we have not tested him with cats so we don't know that for sure.
Oxford is a lovely dog but unfortunately he's been moved around a lot and really needs a home. He has a one-track mind, centered on finding his forever person; once you meet him you can tell he's searching for that person.
He will do best in a home with a fenced-in yard and without kids.
There is only one word to describe Sriracha and that word is FUN! She soaks up every moment of life and loves to go on adventures. She's delightful and friendly to people and she has a great time hanging out with other dogs. Sriracha has an exuberant personality but she listens very well and is obedient when given commands. A tremendously smart dog, she learns quickly and enjoys learning new tricks or games. She requires a person with a strong, active pack leader mentality; she would be very bored laying around with a coach potato. Oh, and she loves to swim!
Sriracha hasn't been observed with cats, however, based on her active personality it can be assumed that she would chase cats at the very least. She needs a house with a yard as an apartment would be to confining, and she does not enjoy the company of kids.
This very handsome senior fellow is Beezy, and we really want to find his forever family! He is a longtimer here at the shelter and was adopted at one point, living with a family for years, but unfortunately he has landed back at the shelter. After a dog transitions into home life with a family, returning to a shelter can be very scary and confusing. Beezy is laid back and loves easy going people and he likes to relax because he has arthritis. He loves the park and going on outings. Beezy would love to spend his golden years with you!
Cilly came to Stray Rescue with bad bite wounds. His medical care has been a long process and he still has some healing to do, but he is ready for a home. Understandibly, because of his past, he would prefer a single dog home. If you are looking for a companion for yourself, then ask about this handsome boy.
Cleavon is a quirky boy with a lot of love to give. A staff favorite at the shelter, he has won everyone over with his puppy dog eyes and playful personality. It is impossible to be anything but happy when he’s around.
Due to past trauma, it takes him a while to warm up to new people, so a low-traffic home would be necessary for him. Once he has gotten to know someone, though, his is as loyal as can be. He is the perfect dog for an introvert, as he prefers to spend his time indoors, snuggled up to his person. As a member of the One Love Club, Cleavon needs a home with no other animals and no small children, as they make him nervous. So, if you’re looking for a laid-back dog to spoil, Cleavon is here, waiting to meet you!
Hi, I'm Despacito! I came to Stray Rescue after I was left abandoned by my previous person, so it can take me a little while to trust new people. I'm an active boy who loves to play and go for runs! I can get overwhelmed sometimes, so I would do best in a home with adults and no other dogs. I would love a fenced yard to play in or a running buddy!
Dock has a huge personality and knows no stranger. He loves his human friends and never passes by without saying hello. He’s a vocal boy who loves attention and going to the park. He also does very well in the car. As a member of the One Love Club, he would do best in a low-traffic home with no small children, where he can be the only animal.
Klaus is one good looking dog! HIs black and white markings give him a very distinguished appearance, and his eyes are beautiful. Whether he is looking somber or grinning with his tongue hanging out of his mouth, he has a certain magnetism that attracts attention. He also has a very waggy tail.Klaus's favorite thing in the whole world is to go for car rides. Once he knows he's going in the car, he does the most adorable dance. He also loves to sit outside and people watch. Klaus is a very sweet boy once he learns to trust a person. He can be slow to warm up to new people, but once he does, he will seek affection and petting from that person. Klaus has his favorite volunteers who adore him. Treats are among his favorite things, and he takes them very gently. Klaus is dog friendly. There are many things that Klaus enjoys doing, such as going for walks, playing in the yard or playing tug. Klaus needs someone in his life who can help him with all his energy. He's a sweet guy who needs some human patience to help him become a great canine companion. Can you be the miracle in Klaus's life?
My name is Lisa Michelle. I was named in honor of one of the wonderful people here at the shelter that feeds us and loves us with her whole heart. I love all my human shelter friends, but I have a secret. It's kind of embarrassing. See, I know that I'm a dog, but other dogs? They REALLY scare me. I don't want to be around them. I don't like to see them even. And if one barks at me... well, I just don't know how to deal. I get so scared that I want to run away, and sometimes I can't do that and I get even more scared then.
So, if I get to have humans of my own, I don't want there to be other dogs around. I promise, though, cross my heart, that you'll never want another dog to live with you with me around because I'm the PERFECT companion. I like to cuddle, and I like going in the car, and I like to play, and I love to go walking where its quiet and I don't have to be around other dogs. I'll go do my own thing sometimes, but I like to be near the people I trust. I'd like to meet you so you can see in person how loving and devoted I can be, if you can help me with my secret, and maybe help me learn that not all the dogs out there are scary and loud, or might be mean to me. Please? I'll try hard if you will?
A member of our One Love Club, Mason is wonderful in every way, he only asks that he be the only animal in the home. He is very energetic and intelligent! He knows his training cues and would be the perfect candidate for some fun agility training. Mason enjoys car rides and swimming in fountains. And if you’re looking for a running buddy, you’ve found him! Mason is a great fit for someone that enjoys being outside and on the move. He is perfect for all of your outdoor endeavors.
Metallica is a big and handsome man! He is a sweet and affectionate boy and loves to hangout with his humans. He was adopted out as a puppy and sadly returned due to no fault of his own. Metallica is very stressed being here in the building and would much prefer a home with some humans to cuddle with. He has not had much exposure to other dogs so he can be awkward meeting them. We feel his ideal forever home would be a home with older children, no animals or a submissive female dog, and a big backyard for him to run and play in. Metallica is a goofy and loving boy who would love the chance to meet you and see if he is a good fit got your family.
Say hello to Mr. Ice! He first came to Stray Rescue on a very cold day last winter and has been learning how to trust people over his time with us. He has made lots of friends at the shelter and many of our wonderful caregivers have a special affinity for this guy! If he were an Olympian, he would excel at the high jump, so a home with a secure privacy fence would be best for Mr. Ice. He would also make an excellent hiking or running partner as he has plenty of energy to expend! He is still learning that humans aren't that bad after all, so a home with older humans without a ton of foot traffic would be ideal for this special boy. Mr. Ice would love to find a family that would dedicate lots of time and patience so that he can truly thrive! If you want to meet this handsome guy, submit an application and come visit him at our Pine Street shelter!
Sweet Myrtle is one of the most intelligent, motivated dogs you’ll meet. She knows ALL of her training cues and even some super cute tricks. She listens so well! While she enjoys walking with her dog friends, she prefers to keep it at that. Anything off-leash gets too exciting for her, so she does need to be the only animal in the home.
Myrtle has a nice balance of energy and enjoys calm strolls through the park. If you’re looking for an active senior lady to spoil, she would love to meet you!
Name's Rolex, and I'm interviewing to be your head of security. I have my own formal wear; classic black and white never goes out of style, and it fits like I grew it myself. I firmly believe that the world is a hectic place full of potential worries, and I'm here to sound the alarm. You will never be safer on a walk than when you're walking with me. I don't miss *anything*.
Now, that said, once I know what's supposed to be happening, I'm a great hang out buddy, and quite an athlete if I do say so myself. Having a set schedule I can count on makes it easier for me to kick back and unwind a little. If you've got a fenced yard where I can play some soccer or practice my hurdles, I'll probably be content with my benefits package for this gig. If that sounds good, we should meet up at my place in the yard and have a chat, kind of feel each other out, see how it goes.
This spunky queen is Rose Apothecary. She has a personality that can brighten anyone's day! She likes to play tug and loves to cuddle. She has a history of seizures, so she would need a calm home, with no other animals or small children to make sure she isn't under a lot of stress.
Stunning and motivated, Sansone has yet to meet a human that he doesn’t adore! He is an energetic boy who enjoys affection and spending time with his person. All of the volunteers make sure to stop by and see him when they’re here because he’s that big of a deal! As a member of our One Love Club, Sansone does need to be the only animal in the home. So, he is perfect for someone looking to add their first and only dog to the family.
Snickers is a stoic boy but don't let that fool you. He's so sweet! He melts when he receives affection. It takes him a bit to warm up to new people but with a little patience and a good game of fetch, you've made yourself a friend for life. He is very loving and loyal, always greeting his friends when he's out for a walk. He truly loves his people. Dogs make him nervous and he gets a little too excited around cats, so he will need to be the only animal in the home. Also, since he does have boundaries and the need for a bond before he's completely comfortable with affection, a home without small children would is best.
Letter Lucy is such a fun girl, and she is quite the snuggle bug once she gets more comfortable with you. She is motivated by food and can get quite excited by garbage cans. She is a sweetheart and the best companion a person can have. Be patient with her, and it will be quite rewarding!
This sweet angel is Wendy, she's about 9 years old. She loves all humans and would need to be the only animal in the home. She loves to give hugs and enjoys calm strolls through the park. Precious and affectionate, she would be the perfect cuddle buddy!
Stevie Nicks is a volunteer favorite here at the shelter! She is a quirky girl that loves her friends and enjoys spending time with her favorite humans. One of her favorite things to do is play in the water. She is a perfect angel in the car and a polite buddy at the park.
Carpenter is a quirky boy with a spunky personality! It takes him a bit to fully warm up to new people but once you're his friend, he will love you forever. A tiny tank, he's the perfect size, though he's still very strong and would do best in a home that could provide regular exercise. An adult-only home is necessary for this sweet boy because he gets a little too excited around children.
Hi I'm Elephant! I love attention and I have many unique little ways of reminding you to show me affection. I love humans so much that I'd do best as the single dog in a household. Chewing on tennis balls, playing tug, and taking long walks are my favorite pastimes. If you like vocal dogs then look no further! I snort like a pig to get your attention or when I get excited, and sometimes I snort just for the heck of it to make you laugh! I need a home with a fenced yard so I can get all the zoomies out of my system. If you're looking for a sweet, energet ic dog who likes to explore, play, and cuddle with her human, then I'm the dog for you. I can't wait to meet my furever family!
Meet Don Julio! He is such a good boy. He loves face scratches, and lots of praise. And of course he loves treats! Don Julio is smart too! He already knows sit, paw, lay down and multiple other commands. He is eager to learn so continuing with his training would be something he would enjoy and excel at. He would do best in a home without children, but he does love adult people! Fill out an application and come down to meet him!
Hello! My name is Barb. When at the shelter, here are some of my favorite things: going for walks or playing in the yard. Exploring my surroundings...I do a lot of sniffing when on a walk, especially if I am at a park! I'm great on a leash. And love car rides. You won't even know I'm there.I like dressing up in sweaters, jackets and even fancy bandannas or collars.
Hi, I'm Beeblebrocks! My perfect day would start with a walk around the neighborhood and a light breakfast. I am ready to be your couch potato after that. I would love a fenced-in yard, but if you are ok with leashed walks, that sounds great to me too. I am pretty much a slow walker because I LOVE to sniff around. I hear that 10 minutes of sniffing is similar to 40 minutes of exercise. If that is the case, I get lots of exercise! Car rides also get me very excited, and I love to look out the window so I'm all for going places around town. I would prefer to not be around other dogs, so please keep me safe. I can be a little scared around other four-legged creatures, but I am sure I am enough to keep you entertained and loved. I would just be happy to be fed, go on walks and be with you.
My ideal day is one that starts by sleeping in, but I'll get up whenever you're ready. If you do sleep in too late I may come over to check on you, but will go back to bed if you need to hit the snooze button. I'm a sensitive and affectionate guy, so I promise to greet you with lots of love first thing every morning. I really like to go for runs with my people, but am happily content hanging out with you while you work. Car rides are great too, so if you would like to go on an adventure, I am always ready! I walk well on a leash, but can sometimes get anxious and excited when other dogs bark at me. When it's time to settle down for the day, my favorite thing to do is climb up beside you and snuggle. I'm pretty low maintenance, so you can pick what movie or TV show we watch. If you'd rather play some more, I am always up for that too!

He already knows sit, paw, lay down and multiple other commands. He is eager to learn so continuing with his training would be something he would enjoy and excel at. I love playing tug and fetch but am also good at playing alone. I only get hard toys because I'm a super chewer, I never chew things that aren't mine though! Car rides are probably one of my favorite things, I love it when the weathers nice enough to have my window down. At home I also like to keep watch and just lay by the window. I am an expert cuddler! I like to sleep in and snuggle under blankets in bed all morning if you let me. Then after I've had a good walk I'm ready to cuddle again! I don't need a yard if you can give me enough mental and physical exercise, but I'd probably love one to play fetch in. I enjoy hikes and long walks because it helps me relax.

Lil Ray would love to go on long adventures with his people once he feels safe and loved by them. Lil Ray is a great dog and just wants to be your one and only best friend! A confident family of older humans that can help him gain confidence is just what this handsome boy is looking for!
Like his namesake, Lucious Lyon is handsome, intelligent, and a bit of a troublemaker. But he's also very sweet and is just a big puppy at heart! He's very smart and eager to please, but he needs a person who will help him understand what's expected of him. He thrives with structure and routine! Lucious is also an active boy who loves to go running, hiking, and swimming. He is the perfect adventure buddy. Lucious also has a sweet side, and he'll stand in your lap and give you kisses once he trusts you. And when he gets excited, his entire body will wiggle adorably. He does get along with some other dogs, but he tends to get overexcited and can play too rough sometimes - so he would do best with a dog who can handle his rambunctious play-style. As a border collie blend, he needs to have a job to keep his body and mind busy. He's a very special boy who just needs a special person to help him blossom.

Minion is a sweet boy with lots of energy! He loves to go for walks and play with his toys. He is the perfect passenger in the car and a lovely companion at the park.

Mr. Dodger will be sure to win your heart over and give you lots of hilarious memories for years to come! Don't wait, apply to meet this great guy today!

Pea is such a special pup. He was very shut down at first probably because of not having much contact with humans. He's still shy, but he prefers to be around his humans instead of being alone. He has learned to walk wonderfully on a leash and is doing awesome and making so much progress. He needs constant supervision when outdoors in case he gets scared. He very much enjoyed his first experience in the snow over this past winter! He would be a great adventure buddy. Pea is not the biggest fan of other animals, but he'd sure make a great companion for someone who has been thinking about adding a special soul to their life!
Peter STT is a real heart breaker! He loves making new friends in the shelter and bonds hard to his people. He really benefits from consistent and thoutful training cues from his handlers, as he is not a big fan of other dogs around the shelter. He wants to be the one and only dog in your life! Peter STT is sweet as can be but can be frightened by small humans, so a home of one or two adults would be just right for this little Cassanova!
