Our Policies

If Stray Rescue of St. Louis picks up a dog or cat as a stray and he/she does not have a microchip and/or an updated collar with information and you are the owner, this is our policy:

• The animal will be held on a 3 day stray hold upon arrival
• When the 3 days are up, the animal will be spayed/neutered
• When the 3 days are up, the animal will be put up for adoption
• If the owner comes forward within the 3 day stray hold, they must prove ownership with vet records
• If the animal requires medical procedures while in our care, it will be the owner’s responsibility to pay this expense

• The animal will be held on a 5 day stray hold
• We will contact the microchip company immediately to try to find the owners
• When the 5 days are up and we have not had success contacting the owners, the animal will be put up for adoption
• If the animal requires medical procedures while in our care, it is the owner's responsibility to pay this expense
