Rescue Stories
How he has found the strength to walk, we do not know. But we just rescued this dog, nothing but skin and bones. It is a miracle we find you today, on Thanksgiving. We are here 365 days a year. We named him Wishbone and are heading to the shelter now. Updates to come. Yesterday, we rescued one of the skinniest dogs we’ve ever seen. We didn’t know how he had the strength to continue, but street dogs are strong and full of adrenaline as…
You could win an original painting by Artist Michelle Streiff! Local Artist, Michelle Streiff, is a long-time friend of Stray Rescue's. She often uses her incredible talent to help raise life-saving funds at events. She saw our recent plea for help and jumped into action. So, we are honored to announce: From now until November 14th, you can purchase a raffle ticket for just $100. If you win, you will get to choose between these two beautiful works of art: Mr. Witherspoon or Catfish! Both…
Strawberry Mochi has seen the worst, but he's fighting to have the best Here is a little baby that needs EVERYONE's prayers!! He is cold, we can't get a temperature read, he is matted, and way too skinny. We're told he was given away by his owners who no longer wanted him because he lifted his leg often. He was given to someone on Craigslist. (PSA NEVER GIVE YOUR DOG AWAY ON CRAIGSLIST!) How he got in this disgusting state is a mystery. A Good…
We came across this BIG, wounded baby boy who was too scared at first to let us go near him...Of course we couldn't just leave him there. So afraid and in unimaginable pain, he kept snarling and curling his lip. We know to respect an animal and give them space, especially when they're in pain. We never use a catch pole. So, we went back to the shelter and scooped up our biggest trap to ensure he had anough space to walk in without tripping…
A lost soul no more. Meet Kanga His body hurts all over, he makes our heart ache. We've said it several times now, but this has been a brutal summer for animals. You won't believe your eyes when you see the soul that just joined our family. As we took pictures of his poor, aching body, we all gasped. Yes, we've seen many dogs come in with horrible mange over our 25 years, but haven't seen a case this bad in years. His skin looks…
We will tell the story the best we can, but with social media (which can be both a blessing and a curse), there are a lot of versions of the story going around. So, without getting into muddy waters, here is what are going to share: We were tagged in and sent a post that was going viral of a husky chained up in what looked like woods or thick brush, with horrible injuries. We couldn’t count how many times it was sent to us.…
*WARNING* GRAPHIC, MEET OUR WARRIOR, ADIRA Scroll down, warning - **graphic content** If you do not wish to view her story but want to donate to her care, click here to bypass graphic content: DONATE NOW The Rescue: On June 10th, we rescued this wounded angel. Her wounds horrified us. Sources tell us she's only ever known the name "bitch." She was covered in fleas, flies, and was so dirty. She’d been living a nightmarish existence that we can’t even begin to imagine. It was…
As our streets heat up in the sweltering summer sun, the helpless wandering animals of St. Louis need you even more. Historically, the summer heat coincides with a big drop in donations. But animal abuse does not take a summer vacation. In fact, when temperatures increase we see a significant increase in the inhumane treatment of man's best friend. In the past week alone we’ve rescued animals off the street after being shot, beaten, and hit by cars. We've taken those that other shelters were…
These abandoned houses are so dangerous. Donna fell through the floor but wasn't hurt. She bravely continued on, and she and Scott rescued this angel from the basement. He had also either fallen through or jumped down and couldn't get back out.   This dog smelled so bad - he's been laying in wet trash for god knows how long. The rescue jeep needs a deep scrub.     We can't begin to tell you how sweet he is. We named him Mudder and we…
