Rescue Stories
Meet Danny, skin and bones As the snow and sleet came down in sheets, a couple of Good Samaritans came running into our building with a dog in tow. As he came closer, we gasped. They found him running by himself, so emaciated that his joints had open wounds from not having any fat in his body. As we pet him, he pushed himself against our hand, eager to be touched. He is dangerously thin and malnourished, so will have to be fed several small…
Little dog found in ditch needs help A Good Samaritan truck driver named Odell somehow spotted a little brown and white puppy quivering in a ditch on the side of a road. He wasn't able to stop but made sure to call us immediately. We went to check out the scene and found this little ANGEL! We couldn't tell at first, but sadly our clinic informed us that she has some significant injuries. X-rays indicate a dislocated hip and broken foot. Say a prayer for…
Meet Ann Margaret Everyone, say a prayer for this baby. Good Samaritans said they found her roaming over by IKEA. She is in really bad shape. Emaciated, nails curled over, and she has two giant tumors on each side of her face. She's so old, tired, and broken down. We really hope this little one makes it. We named her Ann Margaret. Tonight she'll be warm and comfortable, with a full baby. Poor sweet angel. Update on Ann Margaret: Some sad news for Ann Margaret,…
There are still stray dogs roaming the streets needing rescue. They are cautious of strangers, finding solitude in abandoned houses, sleeping with one eye open, and scrounging for enough food to keep their empty bellies from rumbling. Donna feeds them every weekend so she can keep tabs on them but also to fill those rumbling bellies. This "feeding of the strays" didn't go as usual, though. Driving around on a dark, chilly morning, she spotted something strange in someone's driveaway. It was a large bird…
Tashi, rescued after MONTHS of suffering Donna has been tracking this poor girl with a prolapsed rectum....for MONTHS! She finally found her today when a man walking by said “yea, I know the dog you’re talking about, she’s been going in there” and pointed to a crumbling, abandoned house. The house was barely still standing and the only way in was across a weak, narrow board. And since that was the only way in, it would be the only way out as well....You'll have to…
Three Broken Legs and a Partridge in a Pear Tree Meet Partridge, a precious little baby in need of some major help! Her x-rays make us ache, her legs are so badly broken. She was most likely hit by a car, but we'll never know for sure. But what we do know is that she is sweet beyond belief, and she's a warrior. We can't help but fall in love with that little underbite. The clock is ticking, and we feel the urgency. If we…
Giving Tuesday Saves Lives What would the world look like if we put generosity first? This day was created because everyone has something they can give. Every act of generosity, no matter how big or small, changes our world for the better. Giving is about more than dollar amounts; it is the act itself that connects and empowers us. There is room at our table for everyone to give...and receive; to lift one another up and rally around each other. Together, we have the power…
Meet Elfrid - WARNING GRAPHIC CONTENT Is it possible to trust too much? Does unconditional love make you weak? Or, maybe it opens doors to healing that wouldn't be there without that trust, even after unimaginable pain and betrayal. Elfrid is not afraid to love humans, even after the horrors that people have put him through. This is his story.. A good samaritan that we have helped with dogs before in southern Missouri rescued a dog with an unspeakable injury. She emailed our Executive Director…
Heart. Broken. This sweet old lady joined our family today and is so, so sad. She has been neglected for so long. She's miserable from itching, she's painful, her eyes hurt, her ears hurt, she's cold...she has no confidence. This poor baby has GI parasites, entropian in both eyes and chronic dry eye so will need eye surgery to fix this, she has terrible skin from fleas, secondary infection, and sarcoptic mange. It's amazing to think that a simple monthly preventative such as Nexguard given…
"I keep hearing howls coming from an abandoned school on my street." - Good Samaritan We rushed to the scene and immediately confirmed what that Good Samaritan had reported: there was a brown pittie staring down at us through a broken window on the top floor of a school. Every door and window was boarded up except for one small enclosure that led into the basement. There, we found a platform and a 12’ drop. This being the only viable entrance at ground level, he…
