There has been a breakthrough development in the recent animal torture case at the four-family building on the 5300 block of Wells Avenue in St. Louis city as Stray Rescue of St. Louis has lead the effort in the arrest of Darick Dashon Stallworth, 31, who was taken into custody the morning of Tuesday, May 22.
Two Warrants Have Been Issued In Cruelty Cases; Three More Are Pending
There's rarely a dull moment at Stray Rescue, and the rescue of Mikado and her pups certainly took us to a bizarre place in the city. After we received the call, we arrived on the scene to find a house, scheduled for demolition, with railroad tracks literally within feet of the property's front door. And then we saw Mikado, an emaciated momma, carrying a dead puppy in her mouth.
I arrived on the scene to find a puppy in excruciating pain. This poor dog, who I named Rocket Man, had been hit by a car and left to suffer on the sidewalk for three hours.
After receiving yet another call about a dog lying in the grass near death, we arrived at an area known for animal abuse to find that two other dogs in the area had attacked and severely injured this big, handsome boy we named Aidan Montgomery.
Recently, a police officer called Stray Rescue concerning a mom and her two pups who were living in the basement of one of the most dilapidated houses we have seen. The dark, damp basement was completely full of trash and, among the clutter, we found Sheri Anne and her puppies, Anello and Divine. A third puppy who was close by, Scimone, was rescued the day before.
