Meet beautiful Koga, our newest family member. Koga is a 5-month-old German Shepherd with his whole life ahead of him. But he needs your help. This sweet boy was hit by a car, leaving his back leg shattered in two places. Unfortunately, it may need to be amputated, but there is a chance his leg could be saved with surgery at a specialty vet. After reviewing his x-rays, the quote we received is $8,000 - $10,000. We could say "no" but specialists believe they can…
Imagine having no other choice than to give birth in a doghouse or worse yet, in the mud underneath a shed. This is exactly where two Beagle sisters had their puppies. At least they were sheltered, but this is certainly no place for newborn puppies. So, we made the hour drive south to save these two families. Both mamas were friendly but kept a close eye on us while we checked on the puppies. Just to be safe, we loaded up the moms in the…
WARNING: Part of this video is very disturbing (minute 2:47 - 3:09 if you want to fast-forward through it). We chose to include this because, as sad as it is, it is our brutal reality. We see the very worst and that is why it is so important to find the invisible souls of our city that need us most and give them the best lives imaginable. Today we searched crumbling, abandoned houses in the pouring rain. We found 3 puppies in two different houses,…
MAY 28TH: Meet Eeyore He’s had the worst life that can be endured. He’s bleeding and has open wounds, and suffers from an extreme case of mange. As if his life hasn't been horrible enough, he also just tested positive for the deadly infection canine parvovirus (parvo). Please pray for this angel we named Eeyore. When you touch him, he just melts. All he wants is love and to be touched. Why is that so much to ask in our world? He will never know…
Dear Stray Rescue Family, This newsletter is one of the toughest ones I've ever had to sit down and write. The world is changing daily right before our eyes. The world has had to adjust and adapt at a rapid pace and so has the Rescue world. One of my concerns was how is Stray Rescue going to be able to help the community the most? So, when the COVID-19 pandemic descended upon us, we wanted to make sure we were doing everything we could…
April 11, 2020 The first two photos were sent to us today: "Can you help?" This poor little puppy is here with us now, we named him Dobby. But he is even skinnier in person, these photos don't do his condition justice. His temperature is very low. He is wrapped up in our clinic with warm water bottles. He will go home with one of our amazing staff members tonight. He needs your prayers and positive vibes! Poor sweet baby has been through so much,…
Even in the best of times, it’s sad and discouraging for us when we see abandoned animals. Whether they’re on the street or left behind when their families move away, it breaks our hearts. But we’re not functioning in the best of times right now. People are struggling. They’re out of work and losing their homes and having to make painful decisions. They’re doing the best they can. So, when we found this sweet girl tied up at the entrance to our shelter this morning,…
The Lincoln 23 The situation was dire. There was a rural property filled with numerous dogs who needed help, and several of them were being shot. It’s amazing how quickly a situation can become unmanageable when dogs haven’t been spayed or neutered. We were tagged on Facebook with a plea for help, so our team jumped into action and immediately put a plan together. The plan included calling our friends at Frank Leta Acura/Frank Leta Honda and asked if we could borrow a van with…
From Hopeless to Hopeful - Emergency Situation JUST IN: We have been asked to help in an emergency situation. **Absolutely no judgement will be allowed in the comments of this post** A woman has been doing the best she can to feed stray dogs a few hours outside of Missouri, but the dogs have been reproducing and reproducing. There are now 40+ dogs and puppies on the property and they need our help. “Impossible to count all of them, so many puppies, so many adults…
Dear Friends, I feel that it’s important to keep all our supporters informed about what is going on in our day-to-day world here at Stray Rescue. This situation is unprecedented, and we are navigating the best we can through the daily changes. In order to keep our staff and visitors safe, we have started scheduling foster and adoption appointments, as well as scheduling pick up times for our newly implemented pet food pantry for families who are affected financially. Simply stated, this is very difficult…
