If he didn't get help right away, he would die
This is RJ
We were tracking a stray who we thought was very pregnant. The dog was so big and looked like she would give birth at any moment. We followed the stray into an abandoned garage where we discovered this dog wasn’t pregnant at all. In fact, he was a male. And he was severely bloated with fluid caused by advanced heartworm disease. We rushed him to our trauma center at Stray Rescue where our vet team was waiting to start draining the fluid. When it was over, they had drained 7 liters of abdominal fluids which accumulated due to heart failure!
Thankfully, RJ is getting the treatment he needs to survive and is expected to make a full recovery. He was named after a friend of Stray Rescue who often helps with rescues.
Updates to come!
