Times are ChangingApril 10, 2020 | 11:52am
Even in the best of times, it’s sad and discouraging for us when we see abandoned animals. Whether they’re on the street or left behind when their families move away, it breaks our hearts. But we’re not functioning in the best of times right now. People are struggling. They’re out of work and losing their homes and having to make painful decisions. They’re doing the best they can. So, when we found this sweet girl tied up at the entrance to our shelter this morning, that wave of sadness hit us even harder than usual. But, whatever the circumstances that led her to our doorstep, we were thankful that her family brought her to us knowing that she would be safe, loved and well cared for. We welcomed her with open arms, and as Cassady said to our staff, “She’s a Stray Rescue baby now. Thank you all for being all these babies’ second chance!”
This is one reason why we started our new Pet Food Pantry and why it’s so important. No one should be forced to make the heartbreaking decision between feeding their pets or having to surrender them to a shelter. We want to do everything we can to provide resources and help people who are struggling keep their beloved pets in their homes. We know that the world is changing right before our eyes, and we know that our path at Stray Rescue will also change in many ways. Not just right now or this year, but for years to come. We have been engrained in the St. Louis community for over two decades, and it’s never lost on us the trust the community has placed in us over the years. In addition to the Pet Food Pantry, our focus will be to expand our community outreach and provide additional vital services to help in many other ways to keep pets with their families. You’ll be hearing more about our plans in the months to come, but we will always remain true to our mantra of Leave No Dog Behind and care for every animal who needs us.
On a daily basis, we are in awe of you, our loyal Stray Rescue Family – near and far. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for all of your love and support, your donations, your notes of encouragement and for standing right beside us during this difficult time. Every conversation with you, every Facebook message, every email and every letter is greatly appreciated and keeps us going strong. We look forward to the day when we can re-open our doors to you and welcome you with open arms in person at the shelter. Things will never be the same again, but we will get through this together and be stronger for it with you by our side!
