TNR (Trap/Neuter/Return)

TNR (Trap/Neuter/Return) is the humane method of preventing overpopulation of feral cats.

Feral cats were born outside, live outside, and have had zero to very little human interaction. In most cases, they have a care-taker that feeds them/their colony, but they won’t allow anyone to pet them. They will keep reproducing if they are not spayed/neutered. So, groups use humane traps and get the entire colony sterilized.

Then, they are released back to their home, where their caretaker will continue to feed them daily. This is an extremely productive and humane way to help control the feral cat population. Plus! Kitties are healthier and happier.

Every Thursday, the Stray Rescue of St. Louis clinic is full of TNR kitties! We believe spay/neuter is the most effective way to help control the pet overpopulation crisis. We work with local groups who trap them, bring them in, then our clinic works their magic – for no charge – and gives them back to the groups to return!
