Treya’s Nightmare is overApril 20, 2017 | 2:03pm
In a city that can be very violent, murder can affect more than just humans. It can affect man’s best friend as well. After her owner was killed 5 years ago, Treya was forced to live on a chain and utterly alone. Under the back deck of the vacant house was her hideaway.
Winters were tough, but neighbors supplied hay to help keep her warm and enough food to keep her alive. But the one thing they couldn’t do was free her from her chains that held a death grip on her paw. Horrifically, she ended up chewing off her own foot to free herself from the tightly wound chain.
Rescuing her wasn’t easy. She feared humans from lack of socialization being isolated in her own private agonizing world. Donna eventually was able to rescue the elusive and terrified white terrier.
Once back at our trauma center, besides the obvious missing foot, we discovered she also has heartworm and a wicked case of a flea infestation. Her emotional wounds matched in intensity of her physical ones.
Sometimes healing the heart requires a friend, and friends can come in small packages. Little Pinky – another stray and all of 15 pounds – took Treya under his wing. The joy and tail wags of their friendship jumpstarted her broken heart.
Treya is now in a medical foster home, a real home with all the creature comforts a dog deserves. And who knows! After her heartworm treatment is done, maybe a prosthetic might be in her future. Please give to Treya’s extensive medical care today. The heartworm treatment alone will cost $1,200. Together let’s give her the new beginning she deserves!
