Two Emergency Rescues, One You.

Be the Difference.
Meet Perma and Asta, two medical emergency cases that arrived on the same day. Sadly, this is typical at Stray Rescue. Both this dog and cat are heartbreaking but we are going to do everything we can to save them and give them the beautiful life they deserve. We can't do it without you.
First, meet Perma.
This sweet little kitty was hit by a car. Her little jaw is broken in at least one spot but possibly two, and the tissue on the left side of her face was totally peeled back from her jaw bone. There were already maggots inside the wound.
She went into emergency surgery with us and we performed a procedure called a Labial Button surgery, where we sutured her jaw shut using these buttons to keep the suture elevated from her skin. This is equivalent to having her jaw wired shut. She will have these buttons for 4-6 weeks as she heals. During that time, she will eat a liquid diet through a PEG tube. We will keep you updated on her healing journey, she's such a sweet cat.
Next, meet Asta.
Once again, we are devastated to inform everyone that this little pup is yet another gunshot victim. The violence towards our animal friends has significantly increased over the years, and there are no laws to protect them. It is often the sweetest dogs that are shot, as they are so trusting and will just walk up to anyone. At just 40 pounds, the bullet did a lot of damage. The bullet entered through his front thigh and exited in the back, leaving his femur totally shattered as you can see on his x-ray. He is on antibiotics and pain management, but sadly he must have an amputation. His femur is completely destroyed with no hope of saving his leg. We'll get him stable and he'll have the amputation in the next few days. The transporter that brought him to us said he laid his head in her kid's lap the whole drive here. We told him when he heals, he will have a family of his own. And maybe we can find him a family with some kids to love, too.
We will keep updates on both Asta and Perma coming. In the meantime, they need your prayers and we are asking for donations to cover their medical care, surgeries, and healing journeys!
